Dear Friend of Radio Liberty:

In 1887 Edward Bellamy wrote: "On no other stage are the scenes shifted with a swiftness so like magic as on the great stage of history whence once the hour strikes." Edward Bellamy:Looking Backward (1)
Edward Bellamy's famous novel Looking Backward, 2000-1887 was published in 1888. In that book, he described what the world would be like in the year 2000 as mankind entered the new millennium. He foresaw commerce, as we know it, would no longer exist, corporations would merge with government into The Great Trust, all men would receive equal pay, and everyone would work for the State. He wrote: "An American credit card" (will be) "just as good in Europe as American gold used to be....", and "If bread is the first necessity of life, recreation is a close second, and the nation caters for both." (2)

Did Edward Bellamy have foreknowledge of what was to happen as mankind moved through the twentieth century toward the year 2000? Much of what he predicted has come to pass: recreation has become an obsession, athletes are paid far more than physicians, and credit cards are accepted more readily than gold. How could he have foreseen such events? Because he was a dedicated Marxist, and prominent socialists have always been privy to The Plan to remake the world. (3) Following publication of his novel, Bellamy Clubs were organized across our land. With the passage of time the movement that Edward Bellamy birthed was co-opted by America's great tax-exempt foundations, and by those of great wealth who recognized that they could increase their personal power and influence by promoting socialism. (4) Today those who embrace Bellamy's dream control our educational system, our unions, our universities, our media, and his vision has become the quest of the leaders of both of our major political parties. What few recognize, however, is that behind the hidden force that promotes socialism lurks a dark spiritual force intent upon the destruction of civilization as we have known it. (5)

Within just a little over 10 months we will be living in the world that Edward Bellamy envisioned, and of which he wrote: "On no other stage are the scenes shifted with a swiftness so like magic as on the great stage of history whence once the hour strikes."

How could the United States be transformed into a socialist society in such a short period of time? What was Edward Bellamy referring to when he wrote "whence once the hour strikes"? Could it be that the Millennium Bug is destined to play an important role in the metamorphosis of our society? Will Y2K be used to usher in a magical transformation of our way of life?

How did the Y2K problem really come about? Do you believe that a small group of skilled technicians got together and decided that everyone must remove the first two numbers of the year from their computer programs and encoded chips? How could those technicians have convinced software and hardware manufacturers to go along with their plan? Didn't they realize that mainline computers would crash with the advent of the new millennium? Are computer programmers and sophisticated manufacturers really that foolish, or did some government agency order the change from 8-number date sequences to 6-number sequences? If a government bureau did issue such a directive, why isn't that fact widely known? How long have computer programmers known about the coming computer meltdown? How bad will the Y2K crisis be? As time goes by the pieces of the puzzle are starting to fall into place, and a frightening picture is beginning to take form. It is an image of the world that Edward Bellamy dreamt of, a society where everyone and everything is controlled by The Great Trust, and freedom and individualism have become simply a "remembrance of things past". (6)

The world that Edward Bellamy sought is the society that Professor Quigley described in his long-suppressed book Tragedy and Hope:A History of the World in Our Time, a civilization where: " ... freedom and choice will be controlled within very narrow alternatives by the fact that he will be numbered from birth and followed, as a number, through his educational training, his required military or other public service, his tax contributions, his health and medical requirements, and his final retirement and death benefits." (7)

Professor Quigley, as brilliant as he was, did not fear the world that he foresaw, but rather embraced its restrictions on personal freedom. Why? Because, like Edward Bellamy and so many other socialists, he believed that the "petty bourgeois" are incapable of self-government and need an aristocracy to rule over them. Indeed that is what socialism is really all about. (8)

In 1960 Reverend Leslie Millen described life in the Orient under the Japanese occupation in the 1930s and 40s, and during the years leading up to the Communist takeover of the Chinese mainland in 1949. He told how secret agents compiled dossiers on everyone to use once the Red dictatorship was established. Copies of Reverend Millen's talks are available from Radio Liberty. Everyone who values freedom should listen to them because similar events are taking place here in the United States today. Reverend Millen told how Communist agents recorded every detail of his life including the number of shirts in a chest in his bedroom. They monitored all his movements and conversations. Once the dictatorship was established, he was questioned as to why he did not have all the shirts listed in his dossier. He told how Communist agents convinced people that they must turn in their weapons, and rewarded children for reporting what their parents said at home. Listening to Reverend Millen's story and comparing it with what is going on today, reminds me of Yogi Bera's famous quote ... "It's like deja` vu all over again." (9)

WorldNetDaily.com reports that retailers are currently sending details on everything purchased with credit cards to a private company that collects and stores the data. The information is then available to anyone interested in examining your personal buying habits. By checking your data base, analysts can determine whether you own a dog or a cat by noting the type of pet food purchased; they can also determine the magazines you read, and which political or religious causes you have supported with your credit card. All electronic information is available to anyone willing to pay the price, and one day soon may become part of your government dossier. 10)

During a recent interview with Patrick Poole we discussed Operation Echelon, a covert National Security Agency program that screens all electronic transmissions in the United States. The data is collected from telephone calls and faxes, then monitored by banks of computers programmed to identify key words; if such words are detected, calls are screened by British Intelligence Agents stationed at centers across the United States. In return, NSA monitors electronic transmissions in Great Britain and other Commonwealth nations. Accordingly, NSA officials are not technically violating Federal law; rather British agents are violating our laws ... with the help and protection of the National Security Agency. The arrangement has existed for decades and is justified using the rationale that British agents are protecting us from potential terrorists. If you find Patrick's story difficult to believe, I suggest you obtain a copy of his interview, or order a copy of his monograph on Operation Echelon from The Free Congress Foundation. (11)

In Phyllis Schlafly's September, 1998 newsletter she reported that government agencies are trying to: "... electronically tag, track and monitor every citizen's personal medical records." (12)

Although we are assured that government agencies will keep our medical records confidential, FBI files are also supposed to be confidential, yet over 900 FBI files were taken to the White House for review, and to date no one has been held responsible. If FBI files aren't safe from political scrutiny, why should we believe that our private medical records will be protected from government examiners?

Bill Clinton has proposed that every American citizen be issued a Health Care Identification Card that would be presented when receiving medical care. In addition, legislation has been passed requiring American drivers to carry a Federal Identification Card similar to those carried in totalitarian nations. The law is contained in Section 656 (b) of the 1996 Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act which requires States to issue driver's licenses containing Social Security numbers and biometric identifiers. After October 1, 2000, all States must comply with the new Federal directive or face punitive action. In effect, our driver's license will soon become our Federal Identification Card, and every license will carry a magnetic strip containing the personal data required by the Federal government. (13)

According to Phyllis Schlafly, under The Collections of Information Antipiracy Act which recently became law: "... any information about you can be owned and controlled by others under (the) protection of Federal law. Your medical chart detailing your visits to your doctor, for example, would suddenly become the federally protected property of other persons or corporations, and their rights would be protected by Federal police power. This bill creates a new Federal crime that penalizes a first offense by a fine of up to $250,000 or imprisonment for up to five years, or both, for interfering with this new property right. It even authorizes Federal judges to order seizure of property before a finding of wrongdoing." (14)

The State of South Carolina recently sold 3.5 million driver's license photos to a New Hampshire firm for $5,000. The pictures are to be entered into a data base and sold to businesses so they can bring up personal pictures on computer screens for identification purposes whenever a check is cashed or a credit card is used. A number of other States are negotiating for the sale of their driver's license photos despite widespread opposition from citizens concerned about personal privacy rights. (15)

During a recent interview with Lisa Dean of the Free Congress Foundation we discussed the Know Your Customer Program recently instituted by the Federal Reserve, the F.D.I.C., and several other Federal agencies. Under that directive, bank employees are required to analyze their customers' deposits and withdrawals, enter their profile into a data base, and if customers vary from that profile they must immediately be reported. Not only are there stiff fines and imprisonment for bank officials who fail to report their customers, there are also stiff fines for informing customers that they are being reported to the government. (16)

Orbiting satellites are constantly monitoring us. Although we are told that Intelligence Agencies need satellite surveillance to watch our enemies, both Russian and American satellites continue taking pictures of the United States. Satellite photographs are available to Planning Commissions to determine if people have added a room to their home, and to farmers to determine the chemicals needed to improve crop yields. Should we be concerned that satellite technology is being used to monitor American citizens? Dr. William Deagle has compiled information on the Iridium Project that is being used to monitor us; details are available from Radio Liberty.

For years public schools have used psychological testing to gather data on children. Questionnaires often ask intrusive questions as to their personal views and beliefs, and often inquire into the beliefs, possessions, and activities of their parents. In her book The Cloning of the American Mind, B.K. Eakman reveals that data bases containing the information gathered through testing are being maintained, and that children are being tracked with that information. (17)

Video cameras are being mounted on highways across America to detect speeding cars and to monitor vehicle emissions. Video cameras are taking pictures of patrons in stores, in front of government buildings, in banks, and on busy street corners in some cities. Efforts by individuals or companies to utilize encryption devices to secure electronic transmissions is illegal unless government agencies can access their information. (18) Every cellular phone has become a tracking device, and government agencies insist that cellular companies maintain the technology necessary to locate callers. That is also true of vehicles with electronic location devices. Veterinarians recommend injecting pets with electronic identifier chips. Can people be far behind? Everything is in place to impose a tyrannical dictatorship on our people. All that is needed is a crisis.

Executive Orders 13010 and 13011 address the maintenance of our infrastructure during a national emergency and authorizes compiling all information gathered by the Departments of Health & Human Services, Education, Labor, Interior, Defense, Commerce, Transportation, and Energy, the FBI, the CIA, FEMA, the EPA, HUD, the Military, the NSA, and other Federal agencies. In effect, the Executive Orders cited mandate compiling dossiers on every American, as recommended by the U.N. (19)

Is there a plan to mobilize the National Guard in response to Y2K? As I mentioned in my January newsletter, I visited Canada last November and talked with a Member of Parliament who showed me a directive ordering mobilization of Canadian army units in December of this year. In our country, National Guard units have been instructed to be ready for mobilization, and at least one State has ordered mobilization of National Guard units in December. David Bresnahan addressed that subject during a recent interview which is available from Radio Liberty. (20)

Earlier in this newsletter I questioned the widely held belief that back in the 1960s a group of technicians got together and decided that Industry must change its 8-digit date sequences to 6-digit sequences in order to save space on computer programs. I found it difficult to believe that any such group existed, or that technicians were able to convince computer executives to go along with their plan since it would have exposed companies to massive lawsuits with the advent of the new millennium. It wasn't until I read the book Computers in Crisis - How to Avert the Coming Worldwide Computer Systems Collapse that I came to understand how the Y2K crisis really came about. Computers in Crisis was written in 1984 by Jerome Murray and Marilyn Murray, and revealed that most mainframe computers are programmed to crash with the advent of the new millennium. On the fly leaf of that book, we find: "Warning!!! Logical and mathematical flaws have been discovered in the design of worldwide programming and databases. These flaws will result in the Total Collapse of the world's computer systems on or before 2000 AD ... How did it all begin ... On November 1, 1968 the National Bureau of Standards issued Federal Information Processing Standards Publication 4 (FIPS PUB 4). It specified the use of 6-digit dates for all information exchange among federal agencies." (21)

Thus, a 1968 directive from The National Bureau of Standards mandated the use of 6-digit dates for all Federal agencies, and the computer industry went along with that directive. What is even more revealing is the fact that it has been known for almost twenty years that mainline computers are programmed to crash with the advent of the new millennium, yet nothing was done to avert the coming catastrophe ... until recently. Although private companies are now working frantically to remedy their Y2K problems, most government agencies are hopelessly behind and refuse to utilize software designed to correct millennium defects. Certainly there are major problems with embedded chips, but why not try to correct programs and replace as many defective chips as possible now rather than waiting until the crisis develops ... unless there are those who want a crisis to justify the imposition of martial law, and the magical transformation of society that Edward Bellamy foresaw ... with the advent of the year 2000.

We have started broadcasting 30-minute programs on KFAX in San Francisco, Sunday at 3:30 p.m., and on WBMD in Washington, D.C., Saturday at 1:00 p.m. In addition, we have added 5 new stations to our network. Buying radio time is expensive so we try to be selective. We will appreciate your continued financial support and your prayers.

We have also put together two new four-tape sets - The Coming Dictatorship and MSG and Aspartame:The Taste That Kills.

We face difficult times. Government officials anticipate biological warfare attacks on our nation, but they hesitate to tell the public for fear of panic. President Clinton is doing everything within his power to antagonize Arab nations; we are technically at war with Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Sudan following our attacks on them. How will they respond? Officials fear they will attack the heartland of America when our ability to respond is compromised by Y2K. Accordingly, each of us must begin making preparations for ourselves and our loved ones. If church leaders are willing to help organize communities, encourage them. Otherwise, work with your family, friends, and neighbors to make plans for what lies ahead. Radio Liberty has several great new books on preparedness, but do not put all of your time into planning. Use part of your time to educate others, to work to get good men elected to public office, and to bring others to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I recently had an opportunity to interview six of our presidential candidates, and we have at least one good candidate running for the presidency. He needs our support. I will tell you more about him in a future newsletter. In California, State Senator Ray Haynes is challenging Senator Diane Feinstein for the U. S. Senate; he is an excellent candidate, and has a good chance of winning. Whatever happens, life will go on after Y2K, and we will need God-fearing people in office following the coming disruption of society.

Finally, spend time in prayer. The months that lie ahead will offer an unparalleled opportunity to witness to others because people will be looking for answers, and you must be there to help them understand the spiritual nature of the struggle in which we are currently engaged.

Please make copies of this newsletter, circulate them as widely as possible, and do the same with our audio tapes because they will help to awaken the uninformed. Encourage your friends and neighbors to listen to Radio Liberty on the Internet, or on Web TV at www.radioliberty.com. Lastly, pray for those who work at Radio Liberty - for our provision and our protection.

How should we view the unfolding of world events where it seems that evil people prosper, and those of us who follow the Lord seem always on the defensive? Psalm 73 answers that question: "... for I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked ... They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men. Therefore pride compasseth them about as a chain; violence covereth them as a garment. Their eyes stand out with fatness; they have more than heart could wish. They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily. They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth. ... And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High? Behold these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches. Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency. ... When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me; Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end. Surely thou didst set them in slippery places; thou castedst them down into destruction. How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! ..."

Always remember the admonition that "between man's plan in time and God's plan in eternity - there is an infinite quality of difference". We are to stand on God's side in all that we do - and having done all - to stand.

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours in Christ,

Stanley Monteith, M.D.
